In 2021, Starlink is overgrowing. In February, Elon Musk’s company announced it was serving more than 10,000 potential customers. The goal is to increase the number of pre-orders to create more leads. The main objective of the service is to help people who do not have access to high-speed internet.
SpaceX expects the global Starlink service to roll out between September and December, but the regional service will depend on regulatory approval. In June, Aaron Musk said at Mobile World Congress that the proposed satellite network could be available worldwide starting in August of this year, beyond the North and South poles.

Starlink
Starlink is an orbiting satellite community developed in 2015 and launched into orbit in 2018 with the prototype satellite in partnership with SpaceX.
To date, SpaceX has put about 1,000 Starlink satellites into orbit. In early December, SpaceX launched 60 satellites from Kennedy Regional Centre using a Falcon 9 orbital rocket with Starlink 2021 mission capability. At the time of launch on March 26, the constellation had 1,737 satellites.
Starlink Services till date
Connectivity is currently limited to the northwestern United States, parts of Canada, and the United Kingdom. However, it will rapidly expand to all regions of the world. Currently, the protected area is between 45- and 53-degrees north latitude.

In an interview at the World Cellular Congress in December of this year, Musk said Starlink would be available worldwide, beyond the North and South poles, starting next August. However, in June, SpaceX President Gwynn Shotwell said Starlink would reach global service levels by this fall. He said, “We have effectively deployed about 1,800 satellites, and once all of those satellites are in operational orbit, we will be able to provide sustained global protection when needed, as we did in September.”
Speed
Customers can expect transmission speeds of 50 to 150 megabits per second and latencies of 20 to 40 milliseconds in most regions over the next few months,” according to the network company’s website. Launching additional satellites, building more ground stations, and improving network software will significantly improve data speed, latency, and availability.
In response, Musk said on Twitter in February that he hopes to double broadband data speeds to 300 Mbps by the end of 2021.
Value
The service currently costs $99 per month, plus taxes and fees, plus an initial $500 for satellite antenna and router installation.
Why satellite instead of fiber?
Fiber optic cable is much faster than satellite, but it can reach unattended people much faster than fiber. The FCC’s statement also hints at the potential for growth for mobile companies. In 2018, Musk mentioned that he could help SpaceX generate revenue to fund the company’s long-standing plan to build a base on Mars.
Of the company’s creative and forward-thinking approach to Starlink, Shotwell said, “For people who are going to send a million people to Mars, you better give them something to talk about. It’s unlikely that people going to Mars will be content with horribly archaic radios, but on Mars, they’ll need iPhones and Android.
Starlink Network Problems
The Starlink FAQ states, “We recommend installing the network in a location away from snow and other obstacles to visibility. Heavy rain or wind can affect the satellite network connection, slow it down, or, in rare cases, interrupt it.”
In 2019, the World Astronomical Union issued a shocking announcement that stargazing poses a safety risk to nighttime wildlife. As a result, Starlink began considering various new designs to reduce the brightness and visibility of its satellites.
