Android 12 Beta 3 was released just a month after the second version, which brings us one step closer to a secure version of Android 12. We’ve done a number of deep dives into Android 12 Beta 3 to find the best new options and tweaks for you to try out right now, and this is one of the most notable.
Android 12 is the biggest update we’ve seen in years. Not only does it look completely different from the devices we’re used to, but it also requires a lot of changes under the hood. So far we’ve had three public beta releases, which brings us closer to platform stability, but that doesn’t mean Google is holding back on adding new features.
Releases come out often and quickly, and we’ve just taken a break from the first and second betas of Android 12, and now we can hit beta 3. If you’ve already signed up, we recommend doing so as soon as possible to get the OTA replacement, which includes the latest July 2021 security update as well as the all-new UI and system-level changes that come with this patch.
If you haven’t tried the Android 12 beta yet and want to sign up, we’ve put together a quick guide to help you get started. First of all, you can try out the latest operating system preview yourself by visiting the Android 12 Beta sign-up page, and that’s if you have a Pixel 3/3 XL or newer Google phone.

After a long time, Google has finally added the ability to scroll screenshots in Android 12 Beta 3. It is not an exaggeration to say that this feature was long overdue. To compensate for the lack of choice in the “consumer” Android framework, several OEMs have introduced their own framework.
This is a sensible and familiar tool for extending the capabilities of classic screenshots from the monitor screen. When launching a screenshot, a “Capture Extras” toggle switch has been added to the floating menu that appeared in Android 11, allowing you to zoom into other screenshots. It’s unique in that it allows you to capture the entire zoomed-in view of a web page and not just crop what you want.

There is a downside, however. At least in Android 12 Beta 3, the screenshot scrolling feature doesn’t seem to work on websites, which is a shame. We’re sure this will be finalized in the coming months, before the full release of Android 12. In any case, it’s not the most convenient way to find apps on your device.
Auto-traction in face recognition
To improve the accuracy of autorotation, you can enable the face detection feature to react faster when set to portrait or panorama. We don’t know if this new feature makes much of a difference, but perhaps it’s a placebo effect, and things seem to be happening a little faster than before.
More theme choices and new icons
The “Wallpapers” and “Fashion” sections have already been completed in the Android 12 Beta 3 update. In the latest version of Android 12, “Materials You” is almost complete and supports OS color palette selection, but support for mechanical theme icons is almost non-existent.
Theme icons work the same way as the icon packs in third-party launchers. The icons are replaced with supported features and have a linear design and background that matches the selected wallpaper or accent hue. Only one third-party app is supported, and most of Google’s elegant apps are set to the switch.
With the removal of the excellent Energetic Edge feature from current Pixel devices, swipe gestures in the corners should take its place. In Android 12 beta 3, you can now completely disable swipe corners in Assistant.
For those who do not want to have access to the wizard, this can be an adequate solution. Indeed, the different strategies can be disabled at any time. For some purposes, swiping across the table is intrusive and usually interferes with the use of the gesture navigation method. Perhaps this is why the activation method can be changed in the gesture navigation settings, but does not affect the three-button navigation bar.
